Winter mountaineering is no time for shortcuts ❄️🏔️

Back in July, we headed into Caroline Hut for a Winter Mountaineering Course packed with practical skills and plenty of time in real winter conditions.

Over the course, our guests worked on:
🧗 Crampon & ice axe techniques
🪢 Ropework, anchors & abseiling
🏔️ Alpine route finding & navigation
❄️ Avalanche awareness & companion rescue
🌨️ Mountain weather & snowpack assessment
🥶 Cold weather management & emergency shelters
…and much more.

Winter alpine conditions are challenging — shorter days, deep snow, ice, cold temperatures and rapidly changing weather all demand a higher level of preparation.

That’s why our winter mountaineering courses run at a maximum 1:2 guide-to-guest ratio. The small groups allow plenty of individual coaching, hands-on practice and time to develop good decision-making skills.

Every course is also customised to the participants and the conditions, with the flexibility to include specific skills or training objectives you want to work on.

Train for winter. Build skills. Become a more capable and confident mountain traveller.
