Intro to Mountaineering – Caroline Hut
Ready to take your skills above the snowline? This isn’t just a hike — it’s your gateway into real mountaineering. 💪
Over 4–5 days based at the stunning Caroline Hut on Ball Ridge (with the mighty Caroline Face of Aoraki/Mt Cook as your backdrop), you’ll learn by doing in true alpine terrain. 🏔️❄️
What you’ll be focusing on:
✨ Confident movement on snow & ice — crampons, ice-axe use & self-arrest
✨ Ropework fundamentals — knots, rope handling and glacier roping up
✨ Snow & ice anchors — placing solid protection in real conditions
✨ Safe mountain travel — route finding, weather + avalanche awareness & risk management
✨ Put it into action on the Ball Glacier and a climb of Kaitiaki Peak 🏔️
Whether you’re new to mountaineering or want to sharpen your alpine skills, this course builds confidence, competence and respect for the mountains — all taught by experienced NZMGA and IFMGA guides 🧗♂️🪢🌨️
