Huge congratulations to guide Tom Ripley and guest Stephen Walker on their successful ascent of Mount Malte Brun this week! 🏔️
At 3,199 m, Malte Brun is one of New Zealand’s iconic 3000-metre peaks and a classic objective in the central Southern Alps. Rising high above the Tasman Glacier, it offers a long and rewarding alpine climb with varied terrain — rocky ridges, snow slopes, glacier travel, and an exposed summit ridge that delivers spectacular views across the heart of Aoraki / Mount Cook National Park.
Late summer is often a great time to climb Malte Brun. The longer settled weather windows of February and March can bring more stable conditions, with alpine rock routes and firmer snow on the upper mountain. When the timing lines up, it’s a brilliant objective for strong climbers looking to step onto one of the country’s big peaks.
Awesome effort Tom and Stephen — a proud summit on a legendary NZ mountain! 👏
