Five days in true winter alpine conditions. Storms, deep fresh snow, sub-zero temperatures, and a classroom unlike any other.

Based at Caroline Hut, our Winter Mountaineering Course spent the week learning and applying essential mountaineering skills in the field. Safe travel through avalanche terrain, movement on snow, understanding mountain weather, safe route finding and good decision-making all became part of everyday life in the mountains.

The perfect finale was a spectacular snowshoe journey down Ball Ridge, with sweeping views across the Southern Alps and Tasman Valley.
