With commanding views of Mount Sefton, the Mueller Glacier, and the iconic South Face of Aoraki / Mount Cook, this hut is a favourite destination for guided alpine hikes, snowshoeing adventures, and ski traverses. Whether you’re climbing above the Hooker Valley for a single night or setting out on a multi-day high route, Mueller Hut is your gateway to the heart of the Southern Alps. Bookings are required during the summer months as it is extremely popular.
Facilities
Mueller Hut is a well-equipped alpine shelter maintained by the Department of Conservation, offering 28 bunks with mattresses, solar lighting, gas cookers, a water tank, and a long-drop toilet. While there is no heating, the hut provides essential comforts for high-altitude stays. On guided trips, all meals, cooking, and equipment are taken care of by your guide, allowing you to relax and focus on the experience. Don't forget to pack a warm sleeping bag!
