Equipment Policy

Equipment Policy

At Alpine Recreation, your safety, comfort, and enjoyment in the mountains are our highest priorities. To ensure all participants are adequately prepared for our guided adventures, we maintain the following equipment policy:

1. Essential Gear Requirements

All guests must bring or use equipment that meets the specific requirements for their booked trip. Detailed gear lists are provided upon booking and are also available on our website. If you have any questions about your gear, please contact us well in advance.

2. Gear Provided by Alpine Recreation

We supply the following gear for most guided trips. Refer to individual trip gear lists for specific requirements.

  • Climbing helmets, harnesses, crampons, ice axes
  • Mountaineering boots (various sizes available)
  • Avalanche transceivers, probes, and shovels
  • Snowshoes or skis with climbing skins
  • Ropes and technical climbing gear
  • Cooking equipment and utensils (for hut-based trips)
  • Tents and sleeping mats (for camping-based trips)
  • Group first aid kits and emergency communication devices

3. Gear Provided at No Extra Cost

Alpine Recreation is committed to making your mountain experience safe and accessible. For your convenience, we provide mountaineering equipment and outdoor clothing free of charge, subject to availability.

Please see the individual trip equipment list for details on what is provided. Please let us know in advance if you would like to use any of this gear so we can reserve the correct sizes and ensure availability for your trip.

4. Guest Responsibility

Guests are responsible for:

  • Attending the pre-trip gear check.
  • Ensuring personal gear is appropriate, in good working condition, and meets the requirements outlined in the gear list.
  • Notifying Alpine Recreation in advance if you need to borrow any equipment.
  • The cost of replacing or repairing any borrowed equipment that is lost or damaged beyond normal wear and tear.
  • Returning borrowed gear at the end of the trip.

5. Prohibited Items

For the safety and efficiency of our group trips, the following are not permitted:

  • Cotton clothing (jeans, t-shirts) for alpine or winter conditions
  • Excessively bulky or heavy packs
  • Personal drones (unless explicitly permitted)
  • Alcohol or recreational drugs

6. Pre-Trip Gear Check

Guides will conduct a gear check at the beginning of each trip. Any inadequate or unsafe equipment or clothing will be replaced by Alpine Recreation gear.

7. Group Equipment

On public hut or camping-based trips, shared gear (e.g., stoves, cookware, and some sleeping arrangements) are carried collectively. Your guide will distribute group gear fairly amongst participants.
